Reddam House Boarding School

Set in an indigenous coastal forest - located in Durban, our boarding school facilities are modern yet are underscored by old-fashioned values that include having good manners; being punctual; respectful of seniors and elders as well as being helpful, neat, and tidy. Moreover, boarding life also encourages collaboration, communication, compromise, and camaraderie 24 hours a day. Reddam residents have use of the educational, cultural, and sporting facilities on campus 7 days a week.

The Reddam House Umhlanga Boarding Residence provides co-educational boarding to a total of 50 boys and girls in Grades 8 to 12 in two boarding houses – one for boys and the other for girls. Our unique, boutique boarding facilities creates a home-away-from-home atmosphere with small bedrooms consisting of no more than 4 in a room and each room having its own bathroom. Recreational facilities include a swimming pool for the exclusive use of the boarders; a lapa; fire pit; table tennis and access to DSTV and online streaming services. A full time nursing sister and full time councillor provide extra support and care in times of need.

His career is built on a deep understanding of student welfare and development, ensuring that the transition to boarding life is seamless and secure for students in Grades 8 to 12. As a dedicated teacher and mentor, he is passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of the boarders in his care. His approach is rooted in creating an atmosphere where every student feels seen, heard, and valued.

Boarding Facilities

Resident students are accommodated in bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, housing no more than 4 students per bedroom. Boys and Girls (Grade 8 – 12) are housed in separate boarding house but share a common dining room.

Students have access to their own swimming pool, along with a range of recreational facilities, including DSTV and Wi-Fi. Conveniently located alongside the College building where they can walk to and from school, and also access a range of school facilities: two coffee shops, creative & performing arts facilities – including 14 music practice rooms – the Media Centre, 6 tennis courts, the AstroTurf, sports fields and an Olympic-size Water Polo pool.

Mr. Hadyn Skinner, Director of Aquatics, and previous Head of Boarding at Northwood Boys’ School is the Head of the residences at Reddam House Umhlanga. He is based on campus and can be called on 24 hours a day. Head of the Girl’s Res is Ms. Ann Couzens.

For full-time res students, the school organises regular outings to the beach, movies at Gateway, music concerts in Chris Saunders Park, shopping and much more.
